Mia for Senate

Day 1

As we begin the 2017 legislative session today, I just want you to know how excited I am about the opportunity to represent you in the SC Senate!

Our state faces many tough challenges. Fixing our roads, improving our infrastructure, equitably funding our public schools, expanding Medicaid, honoring our commitment to fund state employees’ retirement and equipping South Carolina’s workforce with the skills needed to fill SC jobs, top the list.

Through my legislative and collaborative efforts with business and community partners, I’ll also continue to fight for tougher teen dating violence laws, common sense gun reforms, equal pay for equal work, “disturbing school” amendments, stronger race relations & diversity initiatives and other critical social & equal justice reforms.

Serving on the Senate Judiciary, Transportation, Corrections & Penology and General Committees will help to ensure that our voices are heard on these important issues facing our state.

On Nov. 8, you overwhelmingly elected me as your new Senator and I’m so grateful for the trust and confidence you continue to have in me.

I promise to always be a strong voice for you at the State House, with the same courage, compassion and candor you’ve come to know and appreciate over the past 6 years.

It’s a new day, new year and new role in the SC Senate, as we prepare to hit the ground running! Our challenges are great, but our opportunities are greater!

It’s time to roll up our sleeves and get to work. Together, we can move our state and everyone in it…forward. I’m ready.  Hope you are too.

Happy 2017!
