Mia for Senate

H.O.P.E. and Leadership…

Yesterday, the political landscape of South Carolina changed significantly, in ways that are unprecedented. Four incumbent Senators in the upstate were defeated in runoff elections and the voters of House District 79 chose their democrat nominee in a runoff.

With two extremely capable candidates vying for the seat, it was undoubtedly a very spirited race. Dr. Elkins should be commended for her efforts and willingness to serve the people of House District 79, just as she serves the parents, teachers and students of Richland School District Two.

And now that the voters have spoken, please join me in extending heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Ivory Thigpen on his hard-fought victory in our Democrat Primary run-off!

As I prepare to vacate the House District 79 seat and focus on my race for Senate District 22, I’m so grateful that we have a democrat nominee who shares our passion for real progression and positive change on issues like roads & infrastructure improvements, economic development, public education, domestic violence, health care expansion, race relations and public safety.

In fact, Dr. Thigpen has been one of our most active faith-based partners. From our domestic and teen dating violence town halls to our Race Relations Town Hall series, he and our Rehoboth Baptist Church Family have been right there with us on the front lines…helping to educate, engage and empower our communities in ways that matter most.

That’s leadership. And that’s why I look forward to the possibility of serving with him and continuing our partnership efforts on even greater levels.

Congratulations, Dr. Thigpen! You have the heart of a true public servant. We believe in your vision for our district and know that House District 79 will continue to thrive under your leadership.

As both of us prepare to face opponents in the November election, I thank God in advance for what He is doing to ensure that the people of House District 79 and Senate District 22 continue to be well-represented in the SC Legislature.

And with the continued prayers and support of the amazing people we have the privilege to represent and serve, we will WIN in November! That’s H.O.P.E. and Leadership for Our Future.

Believe it…
