Richland County’s Top Cop Endorses Mia McLeod for Senate

Columbia, SC—Today, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced that he will support Rep. Mia McLeod in her bid to become the next District 22 Senator.

“Sheriff Lott has dedicated his life to serving the people of Richland County. I’ve collaborated with him on issues like Domestic Violence, teen dating violence and other critical public safety issues that impact our community. He does what he believes is right, regardless of the political consequences and I’m honored to have his support,” Representative McLeod stated.

Sheriff Lott came to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department in 1975 as a patrol officer. He advanced thereafter to various positions, including Criminal Investigator, Narcotics Agent, Lieutenant and Captain of Narcotics Division, Administrative Captain, Uniform Patrol Captain, Watch Commander, becoming Sheriff in 1996.

Sheriff Lott stated, “Mia holds herself to the same standard I hold myself. Mia is committed to giving our law enforcement the tools to tackle gun crime and domestic violence. She is a straight shooter who does what’s right, even when it’s unpopular.
